Not the capital, which is Bern. It is the financial and cultural capital though. It’s also the largest city in the country.

The area was held by Rome. Then Germanic peoples moved in, followed by the French. They eventually joined neighboring forces (cantons) to counter the Hapsburgs. Located along trade routes, the city expanded and prospered.

Sprungli Confectionary started in 1836. The chocolatier was one of the first in the city. The confectionery and chocolate businesses operate separately, with the latter a collaboration with Lindt.
