Located in Seneca Falls, New York (about an hour southeast of Rochester), this site preserves the first Women’s Right Convention in world history. The convention took place in July 1848 and produced the Declaration of Sentiments. Attendees included prominent women of the day (Lucretia Mott, Mary Ann McClintock, Martha Wright, et. al) as well as men like Fredrick Douglass.

The convention was held at the Wesleyan Chapel, which has been recreated by the park service.

The 19th Amendment, women’s right to vote, wasn’t passed until 1920. The Equal Rights Amendment, prohibiting discrimination based on sex, wouldn’t be passed until 1972.
