Capital: Amsterdam

The capital is technically Amsterdam. However, the government has resided in The Hague since 1830, when Belgium gained independence. The country is proud of its sea-faring history, which resulted in an empire including colonies in North America, South America, Asia, Africa, and Europe. The history of the Dutch Empire can still be found in the food.

Amsterdam: The capital city. A pedestrian / bike friendly city. WWII history.

Ghent: A college town with medieval history and the place where the US and Britain ended the War of 1812.

The Hague: The de facto capital is the home of the Peace Palace (funded by Andrew Carnegie), two royal palaces, and lots of stork art.
