The de facto capital of The Netherlands. The government resides here, as well as the monarch. The form of government here serves as a model for the United States.

The Binnenhof is the main attraction. However, it’s undergoing a multi-year renovation and is closed. Even employees work in temporary offices. Still, there is a lot to see.

Pro Tip: The Peace Palace has limited availability of tours, which is the only way into the grounds. If you plan ahead, you might be able to get a spot (which I didn’t).

Nosh:

Oliebollen are Dutch donuts found mostly at Christmas and New Year’s. I had the cherry filled and enjoyed the crisp exterior and soft dough interior. They come in a dozen flavors.

Check out the Foodhallen. It’s a cool vibe food court with Mexican, pizza, burgers and more…with a bar in the center. There are board games so take some time and relax (with a beverage, of course).
