A symbol of the independence of the state of Tejas from Mexico, located in San Antonio, Texas. The Battle of the Alamo was lost by the defenders in 1836. Over 200 people died in the 13 day siege, including Davy Crockett. The site was originally a Roman Catholic mission but was fortified and barracks added by the Mexicans following their independence from Spain in 1821.
