A border town that blends French and German architecture beautifully. This is a reflection of the town changing hands a couple times in the past.
Nav:
The architecture here is very popular. Two must see items are Notre-Dame de Strasbourg or the Strasbourg Cathedral. It was the tallest building in the world until 1874, when St. Nicholas’ Church was completed in Hamburg.
The other is Petite France. All the little shops and cafes along the riverside make it a great place to stroll through.
On the macabre side, check out Pont du Corbeau. It was originally called Schindbrücke (Bridge of Tortures). People convicted of capital crimes were sewn inside linen sacks and thrown into the river. People convicted of lesser crimes were caged on the bridge for period of public ridicule before being tossed into the river where they could swim to safety.
Nosh:
The French call it tarte flambé and the Germans call it flammekuche. It’s thin, crisp bread with cheese and other toppings. It’s a regional spend very popular. it can be found all over the city but this is at Binchstub Broglie.
Nip:
Picon beer. Take a basic lager beer and add Picon, which is like an herbal and citrus bitters. It isn’t nasty but I would get more than a small one to taste.
