Part of Yugoslavia until 1991. Part of a kingdoms turned dictatorship before then. Part of the Hapsburg empire before that (they’re on Austria’s southern border so it makes sense).
Today, the country is part of the EU, Schengen Zone and NATO so it’s an easy, pleasant, and safe place to visit.
Ljubljana: The capital city has embraced St. George and the Dragon, though I’m not sure which one they like more.
