If you’ve seen All The Light We Cannot See (Netflix), you’re familiar with the location. Located along France’s Brittany cost, the high city walls are part of the city’s Corsair history. Pirates, with a license from the a king, were Corsairs. They only spent six months in prison upon capture. They were good at their jobs and built this city.

You can walk the ramparts around the city, visit a little zoo inside the city walls, and roam around the pedestrian friendly (but packed) city.

Pro Tip: I stayed in a hotel in the city. It looked like there were several people who drove in for day trips. Go out a little later at night to avoid crowds at popular spots.

Look for interpretive signs, like this one outside Cross of Fief Square. They provide a lot of info in French and English.
Some cool street art. The white ermine is a symbol of the city.
Bring good walking shoes.

Nosh:

Seafood tray at L’Ancrage. Escargot is something you should try in France. You might actually like it.
Mussels are very popular in Saint-Malo.
Burger from Au Bouchot. Service was good. European beef isn’t the same as US beef but it was a nice change from seafood.
Oysters are fresh and locally sourced.

Nip:

Affligem is a Belgian Blonde Ale that dates back to 1074. It’s light with a touch of citrus. Pairs well with seafood.

I’m not sure Saint-Malo has a local brewery. If so, I didn’t find it in restaurants.
