Also known locally as Lefkosia. A divided capital city. The southern part of the city is controlled by the Republic of Cyprus, a Greek originated people. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was established after the Turkish invaded in 1974. There is a demilitarized zone (DMZ) separating the two parts of town / countries.

Nav:

Walking Tour: Old trade fortifications, monuments to freedom fighters, churches, mosques, farmers markets and more.

North Cyprus: There is a border crossing at the north end of Ledra Street on the Greek side. You show your passport to the Greek passport control, walk about 75 feet, show your passport to Turkish passport control, then you're free to move about (same process in reverse).
I realize these photos are unfair to the Turkish side. There is a definite income gap on the other side of the border. However, there are lots of clean and interesting shops as you cross the border (can't vouch for price, as I didn't but anything). You can also get Efes (Turkish beer) and Turkish delight on this side too.

Nosh:

Piatsa Gourounaki: Located off Ledra Street, the main pedestrian walking street through town. The place seemed to be busy and had a great place to people watch from the patio. Live music could be heard from a venue down the street.

Nip:

Maratheftiko Wine: Go to a liquor / convenience store and grab a bottle of any local wine. How available is Cypriot wine in your home town?! This particular wine isn't as bold as a cabernet for merlot but more pleasing than a pinot noir.

Golem Brewhouse: The brewery is a bit off the well worn tourist path...but it was a nice reprieve from the crowds.
