The Silver State
Capital: Carson City
Notorious for casinos across the state (even in the airports). Gambling halls would pop up in mining towns so it's no wonder the Silver State turned them into an attraction once the silver rush ended. Nevada became the 36th state in 1864. Major cities include Las Vegas, Reno, and Carson City. Other cities worth checking out include Virginia City and Lake Tahoe.
Elko: A small town in the north part of the state. Cool murals and a good place to stop between Salt Lake City and northern California.
Las Vegas: Sin City. Vegas, baby! Any vice you have, you can find it in Vegas. While there is a seedy side to the city, there is a lot to do that doesn't involve hookers and blow or strip clubs and gambling. I prefer visiting in the shoulder seasons on March/April and September/October. It gets hot in the summer daytime and cold in the winter night time.
Nevada State Capitol: A silver domed capitol for the Silver State.
Reno: The Biggest Little City in the World...actually, a smaller version of Las Vegas.
National Park Sites Visited
Great Basin National Park: This is one of those sleeper parks...It's been there in a protected status for over 100 years, yet I just found out about it recently. Check out Lehman Caves and the bristlecone pines, the oldest living trees on the planet at over 4,000 years.
