This National Historic Park is located in Natchez, the territorial and first capital of the state until it moved to Jackson in 1822. The site is comprised of five locations which address life in the early American south, including an old fort, some houses, and a preservation district.
I visited Melrose, a suburban mansion owned by a lawyer. The home was built in the 1840s. The property was updated as it was passed down via inheritance or sold.
Pro Tip: Tours are available from the ranger station on the property. No self-guided options so check the dates and times before you head out.
