A lot of history has taken place in this city, including key events from WWII Germany. Today, it's known for Oktoberfest, a clock tower show, and beautiful architecture.

Nav:

Oktoberfest: The celebration began with a horse race to honor the marriage of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese. No horse racing from what I saw but plenty of music, food, and beer by the liter. The mayor of Munich taps the first keg to kick off the annual celebration, that often starts in September.
'Sweet Caroline...bomp, bomp, bomp'. Prost!

City Hall: Added to the tower in 1907, the glockenspiel (clock) is the main attraction. The 15 minute show goes twice a day at 11am and noon. There is a 5pm show from May to October. It recounts the same royal wedding that started Oktoberfest. I think its an underwhelming performance but it's free and everyone watches it at least once.

Hofbrau Haus: An icon of the city. Established in 1589 as a brewery for the Bavarian court, the restaurant was opened to the public in 1828.

City Walk: I use Rick Steve's Audio Europe app for European cities and GPSMyCity for other locations. Both are free and provide on-demand information.

Nosh:

Schweinshaxe (Pork knuckle):

Weisswurst (Munich breakfast sausage):

Nip:

Beer: Mainly comes in two styles, light (Pilsen) and dark (dunkel)...but you can find Weisse (white or wheat).
