Located in Camp Verde, Arizona (about 1.5 hours north of Phoenix). There is no evidence Montezuma or any Aztecs were ever here. Early explorers found similarities between this structure and those of Aztecs. However, the Sinagua Indians built this 20 room structure in the 1100s and Moctezuma II wasn't around until the 1400s.
Teddy Roosevelt declared the site a National Monument in 1903. Visitors could climb a ladder to the top until 1951. Due to damage to the site, you can only view it from the ground level now.
