Picturesque. Stunning. A bucket list item. This postcard worthy destination is all of the above. The highlight is the abbey at the top of the island.
Pro Tip: The shuttle bus that runs from the mall bland to the island is free. If you want to walk, do it in the way to the island. Your legs will be fresh (lots of stairs on the island). The return shuttle is packed but it’s a short wait and short ride.
Nav:
The streets are narrow and crowded but there are still some amazing views.
Pro Tip: The town below the abbey is free to explore. The abbey is worth the visit but get the audio guide or a guided tour because the brochure is pretty light on info.
Nosh:
There are several places to eat on the island. Mostly crepe shops, burgers, and quick cafes. I had some fish and chips at Le Tripot (didn’t take a photo).
If I had to do it over, I’d pack a lunch or eat at one of the mainland restaurants with better prices and more selection.
Nip:
Blanche Hermine and the Duchess Anne Triple from Le Tripot. Lancelot from Salicorne.
Blanche Hermine is a witbier so it has a bit of sweetness. It’s made by Lancelot Brewery.
Duchess Anne is a Belgian Triple…so lots of malt and a higher ABV (7.5%). Also brewed by Lancelot.
Lancelot is a Belgian Pale Ale. Solid beer. It’s not as heavy as a triple but not super hoppy for a pale ale.
