This National Historic Site is located in Richmond, Virginia. It's dedicated to preserving the home and legacy of Maggie Walker. She is the first woman in the country to establish a bank. She provided reasonable loans to people in her segregated community so they could improve their situation in life and encouraged them to save money. The Penny Savings Bank survived the Great Depression, merged with a few other banks, and is still in operation today.
