The capital is Vientiane but this is a popular location with expats and tourists. The monasteries, museums, downtown, and night market food are worth a look if your in the area.

Nav:

Alms: Monks from nearby monasteries used to collect alms (food offerings) for themselves. They have enough food today but they still collect offerings to be donated to the needy in the city.

Wat Xieng Thong: A wat is a temple. This one was built in 1560 and still active today.

Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre: A lesser visited museum in the city, this is a great introduction to Lao culture.

Mount Phousi (also known as Phousi Hills): There are several shrines along the way and good views from the top. It can be a steep climb in some places but there are several areas to stop along the way.

Nosh:

Popolo Cantina Convivial: Pizza was a nice change from asian food. Pepperoni, banana peppers, and tomato. The smell of the dough baking carried out into the street and smelled wonderful.

Luang Prabang Night Market: Visited several times. Try anything that looks good.

Bamboo Garden Restaurant:

Visoun Cafe:

Nip:

Beerlao: The national brew. It's about $1.25 for a 640ml bottle. Refreshing and cheap...a good way to cool off in the hot weather.
