The Bluegrass State

Capital: Frankfort

Bourbon (need I say more), Abraham Lincoln, Daniel Boone. Kentucky became the 15th state in 1792. I wanted to see a horse race but by the time I got back to Louisville, all the races at Churchill Downs were done for the season.

Kentucky State Capitol: This is the current one, not the one Abraham Lincoln served as a state senator. It's still gorgeous and represents it's state well.

Bourbon Trail: Bourbon...either I just got your attention or you're about to search for a different place to explore. Either way, it's part of American history and it's the hotness right now...just look at the prices of bourbon versus vodka or rum at the liquor store.

National Park Sites Visited

Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park: The cabin enshrined here is from the same time period as the one Abe was born in but isn’t THE cabin he was born in. It’s still a great tribute to the 16th President.

Camp Nelson National Monument: A supply depot, a training facility for African-American troops during the Civil War, and a cemetery.

Mammoth Cave National Park: The longest known cave system in the world, with over 400 miles mapped so far. Also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
