The town started in the 1390s. It was heavily damaged by Napoleonic forces in the 1800s and again during WWII. the city was the capital from 1920-1940, when Vilnius was occupied by Polish forces.

Lithuania has been occupied by Russia and Poland…so vodka is common here.
Volga’s-Engelman is the local brewer in town. Their wheat beer was the best.
