Located in Des Moines, this tribute to the Hawkeye state was completed in 1886. It's a beautiful and thoughtful design. The architects were the same who designed the Illinois State Capitol. The governor's office is on the first floor and the legislative chambers are set on the third floor. This was intentional to remind the governor that the will of the people is higher than their own. Other state capitols have a similar design but this is the only place where I've heard the placement was intentional.
