This National Historical Park is located in Promontory, Utah, north of Salt Lake City. The park commemorates the joining of the railroad from east and west, allowing people and goods to transit across the country on the 'iron horse' instead of wagon. The golden spike here is a replica. The original 17.6 carat gold, 18 ounce spike is now on display at Stanford University.
