Capital: Atlanta

The state is named after King George II of England, who granted it's formation in 1732. One of the 13 Colonies. Officially the fourth state to join the Union in 1788.


Atlanta: Capital city. Most populous city in the state. Home to football and baseball teams. Home to lots of history.


National Park Sites Visited

Fort Frederica National Monument: A few ruins remain from the fortress that defended a British colony from Spanish conquest in 1742.

Fort Pulaski National Monument: A young Lt. Robert E. Lee served as an engineer here during the construction of the fort. He returned during the Civil War as commander of the Confederate Army.

Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Site: The birth and boyhood home of the civil rights leader.
