This site, together with nearby Fort Sumter, combine to make this South Carolina National Historical Park a combination to remember. Located in Charleston, this is where the US Civil War started here. The first shots of the war were fired against Union troops at Fort Sumter...from this location by Confederate troops. The high ground resulted in a ruined Fort Sumter and evacuation of Union troops.

Oceola was a Seminole who fought against removal from tribal lands in Florida. He was captured and sent to Ft. Moultrie, where he died at 34, likely due to foreign disease.
