The city of Williamsburg was designated as the capital of Virginia in 1705. Jamestown caught fire and burned so the capital moved inland. This remained the capital until 1780, when it moved to the current capital of Richmond. Period actors staff sites across the rebuilt city. If you ask the actors about smartphones, they'll pretend they don't know what you're talking about because smartphones didn't exist in the 1700s. There are several buildings you can enter to find out about how people lived in the time, shops where you can purchase goods, and a few restaurants.
