Previously known as a seedy city with an answer to every vice, the city (country) is making attempts to clean things up. Food is great, nightlife is active, and history is all over.
Nav:
Grand Palace: Home of the king since 1782. The king is well respected in Thailand and his photo is displayed across the country.
Ayutthaya: A UNESCO World Heritage Site. The capital of Siam in the mid-1300's until the 1700's. You can climb up just about anywhere there are stairs and no signs saying not to.
Wat Traimit Withayaram Worawihan (Golden Buddha Temple): The main attraction is the 5.5 ton buddha statue with various levels of pure gold. The statue was covered with plaster to conceal its value by monks for some reason and forgotten for a few hundred years. When moving it in the 1950s, a piece of plaster fell off and the gold was revealed. Then a building to match the statues grandeur was commissioned.
Nosh:
Yaowarat Night Market (Chinatown): Walk around and eat anything that looks good. There are curbside restaurants, market stalls, and traditional restaurants. Apparently some locals don't like the market because of the traffic congestion it causes so support the businesses in case they get shut down one day and you miss the chance.
More Favorites: If you leave Bangkok hungry, it's your fault. If you leave hungry for more, you did it right!
Nip:
Leo: National beer brand
Coconut Water: It's hot in Thailand. When you're adventuring, you need hydration (yes, other than beer). Have them crack a fresh one open for you.
