This National Historical Park is all about one thing...protecting a small cabin like the one the 16th President was born in. This is referred to as a symbolic cabin because the logs are from the 1840s and the structure is similar to cabins in the area. This is not believed to be the actual cabin.
Located in Hodgenville, KY, about a one hour drive south of Louisville. The boyhood home where he did some raising as a young man isn't far away from here either, though it was closed for the season when I stopped by. The grand structure built over the cabin is more impressive than the dwelling itself, as it contains symbolism as well...16 rosettes for the 16th President and 56 stairs for the number of years Lincoln was alive. So maybe the site is about more than just a cabin. The nearby museum has exhibits for those interested in learning more.
